Lesson No 3 - The plural of the nouns....

1. El plural de los sustantivos generalmente se forma agregandole S al singular.
Example:
Ventilador - Ventiladores = Fan - Fans
Mesa -Mesas= Table - Tables
Marcador - Marcadores= Marker - Markers

2. Cuando el sustantivo singular termina en s, sh, ch, x, z, se agrega es, PERO LA ES SE PRONUNCIA COMPLETA.

Example:
Beso - Besos= Kiss - Kisses
Plato - Platos= Dish - Dishes
Deseo- Deseos= Wish - Wishes
Iglesia - Iglesias= Church- Churches
Fosforo - Fosforos= Match - Matches
Zorro - Zorros = Fox - Foxes
Caja - Cajas= Box - Boxes

3. Cuando el sustantivo singular termina en ce, se, ge se agrega s, PERO LA ES FINAL RESULTANTE SE PRONUNCIA COMPLETA
Cara - caras = Face - Faces
Cordón - Cordones= Lace - Laces
Caso - Casos = case - cases
Puentes - Puentes = Bridge - Bridges
Juez - Jueces = Judge - Judges

4. Cuando el sustantivo singular termina en Y, PRECEDIDA DE CONSONANTE, se cambia la Y por I y se agrega ES.

Example:
bebe - Bebes= Baby - Babies
Universidad - Universidades = University - Universities

Nota: Cuando el sustantivo singular termina en Y, PRECEDIDA DE VOCAL, solo se agrega S

Juguete - Juguetes= Toy - Toys
Llave - Llaves = Key - Keys

5. Cuando el sustantivo singular termina en F, se cambia la F por V y se agrega ES

Example:
Hojas - Hojas = Leaf - Leaves
Mitad - Mitades = Half - Halves

Excepciones a la regla:

Jefe -Jefes = Chief -Chiefs
Pañoleta-Pañoletas = Kerchief - Kerchiefs
Pañuelo-Pañuelos = Handkerchief - Handkerchiefs
Puño de camisa- Puños de camisa = Cuff - Cuffs
Esposa - Esposas = Handcuff- handcuffs
Techo - Techos = Roof - Roofs

6. Cuando el sustantivo singular termina en Fe, se cambia la Fe, por V y se agrega Es

Example:
Cuchillo - Cuchillos = Knife - Knives
Esposa - Esposas = Wife - Wives

7. Cuando el sustantivo singular termina en O, se agrega Es.

Ecample:
Papa - Papas = Potato - Potatoes
Tomate - Tomates =Tomato - Tomatoes
Negro - Negros = Negro - Negroes

Excepciones
Radio - Radios
Piano - Pianos
Photo - Photos

8. Algunos sustantivos forman su plural de manera irregular, es decir no agregan la S al singular

Hombre - Hombres = Man - Men
Mujer - Mujeres = Woman - Women
Pie - Pies = Foot - Feet
Diente - Dientes = Tooth - Feeth
Piojo - Piojos = Louse - Lice
Niño - Niños = Child - Children
Ratón - Ratón = Mouse - Mice
Ciervo - Ciervos = Deer - Deer

9. TODAS LAS REGLAS ANTERIORES APLICAN AL MOMENTO DE AGREGAR LA S AL VERBO EN EL PRESENTE SIMPLE CUANDO EL SUJETO EQUIVALE A UNA TERCERA PERSONA SINGULAR.
