Lesson 19 - "There is - There are"

1. En español esta expresión se deriva del verbo “haber” pero en ingles se deriva del verbo “To – Be”; su uso depende del primer sustantivo de la frase y de su tiempo de conjugación así:

a) Si el primer sustantivo de la frase está en singular, usaremos There is para el presente y There Was para el pasado.

Hay una flor amarilla
There is a Bellow flower

Habí una gran fiesta (hubo)
There was a great party

b) Si el primer sustantivo de la frase está en plural usaremos There are para el presente y There Were para el pasado

Hay muchos carros sucios
There are a lot of dirty cars

Hubo muchos accidentes
There were so many accidents

NOTA: la forma negative para el presente y para el pasado se construye agregando las palabras “NO – NOT” después de la forma verbal

Example:

No hay agua caliente en ese hotel
There is no Hot water in that hotel

2.El futuro y el condicional del futuro (habrá, habría) se forman con: There will be – there would be, respectivamente; sin importar si el sustantivo es singular o plural.

Habrá una reunión esta noche
There Will be a meeting tonight

Habría una posibilidad
There would be a possibility

Nota: la forma negativa para estas expresiones se construye únicamente con la palabra “Not” después del auxiliar.

Example:
No habría ninguna respuesta correcta
There would not be any correct answer

3.La forma interrogativa se construye Invirtiendo los dos primeros términos de la expresión

Example:
Is there a Bellow flower?
Are there a lot of dirty cars?
Will there be a meeting tonight


4.Para decir “si hubiera” se usa la expresión “If there were” siempre y cuando esté seguida de un sustantivo

Example:
Si hubiera algún problema Adriana lo resolvería If there were any problema, Adriana would solve it
