Lesson 42 "The Subjuntive Mood"

1. El subjuntivo es español se forma con la palabra “que” o con la palabra “cuando”

Example:

Quiero que seas bilingüe

Seré fiel cuando vengas.

En ingles el subjuntivo funciona de manera diferente debido que con la palabra “when” nunca hay subjuntivo.

2. Para formar el subjutnivo en ingles hay dos estructuras diferentes:
1. Con la estructura SUJETO+VERBO+THAT+SUJETO+VERBO(F/S)

Example:

He whises that she come to the post office

El desea que ella venga a la oficina postal

We hope that he listen to the telephone

Esperamos que el escuche el teléfono

I suggest that you study a Little more

Yo te sugiero que estudies un poco más

Nota: Obsérvese que el verbo subjuntivo no lleva la “S” en la tercera persona.

2. Con la estructura SUJETO+VERBO+OBJETO+VERBO (INFINITIVO). El primer verbo es el verbo de mandato

Example:

He suggests me to pick up my things

El me sugiere que recoja mis cosas

I order you to kneel before me

Te ordeno que te arrodilles ante mi

We wish her to kiss us

Nosotros queremos que ella nos bese

They want you to come right now

Ellos quieren que vengas ya

Nota: de las 2 estructuras anteriores la segunda es la más común.

3. Como dijimos antes, en ingles con la palabra “When” no hay subjuntivo

Example:

He will dance when she sings

Nota: observes la “S” del Segundo verbo, lo cual indica que no está en subjuntivo.

4. El tiempo del subjuntivo se expresa por medio del tiempo del primer verbo de la frase

Example:

PRESENTE SUBJUNTIVO	She wants him to crawl Ella quiere que el gatee
PASADO SUBJUNTIVO	He told me to run Ella me dijo que corriera
FUTURO SUBJUNTIVO	I will ask them top pay attention
CONDICIONAL FUTURO SUBJUNTIVO	She would tell you to use her laptop Ella te diría que usara su portátil
CONDICIONAL PRESENTE SUBJUNTIVO	If I beg you to come back, you won’t do it Si te ruego que vuelvas, no lo harás
CONDICIONAL PASADO SUBJUNTIVO	If she wanted me to do it again, I would do it. Si ella quisiera que yo lo haga de Nuevo, yo lo haría.
PERFECTO SUBJUNTIVO	He has suggested you several times to send the package. El te ha sugerido varias veces que envies el paquete.
