Lesson 43 "Expressions Of Quantity"

  1. MUCH: significa mucho (a), se usa con sustantivos singulares PREFERIBLEMENTE EN FRASES NEGATIVAS O INTERROGATIVAS.

Example:

I don’t have much time to waste here

No tengo mucho tiempo para perder aquí

How much Money could lend me to buy that?

Cuánto dinero podrías prestarme para comprar esto?

How much fuel is left?

Cuanto combustible queda?

  1. MANY: significa muchos (as). Se usa con sustantivos plurales contables, PREFERIBLEMENTE EN FRASES NEGATIVAS O INTERROGATIVAS.

Example:

Do you have many siblings?

Tienes muchos hermanos?

There weren’t many people with driver’s license

No había muchas personas con licencia de conducción

Have you had many boyfriends?

Has tenido muchos novios?

  1. Es possible usar Much y many en frases afirmativas SIEMPRE QUE ESTEN PREEDIDAS DE LAS PLABRAS SO, TOO, AS.

Example:

I love you so much

He will, have so many problems with his wife

El tendrá muchos problemas con su esposa

She used to eat too much when she was sad

Ella solía comer demasiado cuando ella estaba triste

If they made too many mistakes, they wouldn’t pass the driving test

Si ellos cometieran demasiados errores, no pasarían el examen de conducción

I have as much power as you

Tengo tanto poder como tú

She has as many friend as he

Ella tiene tantos amigos como él

  1. Las expresiones: A lot, A lot of, Lots, Lots of, son sinónimos exactos es decir, cualquiera de ellas significa, mucho, mucha. (A lot y Lots son adverbios, A lot of y Lots of son adjetivos) y se usan en todo tipo de frases. Cuando después de la expresión sigue un sustantivo se debe usar la preposición of.

Example:

We don’t have a lot of water

Nosotros no tenemos mucha agua

We don’t have lots of water

We have worked a lot / We have worked lots

Nosotros hemos trabajado mucho

  1. Las expresiones AGREAT DEAL - A GREAT DEAL OF significan mucho, mucha y se usan con sustantivos singulares en todo tipo de frases.

Example:

She dances a great deal

Ella baila mucho

He knows a great deal of English

El sabe mucho ingles

  1. El significado de algunas expresiones de cantidad

  1. La palabra “TOO” por si sola significa demasiado (a) y la palabra “PRETTY” por si sola significa bastante CUANDO ESTAN ANTES DE UN ADJETIVO.

Example:

This piece of bread is too hard

Este pedazo de pan esta muy duro

She is pretty ugly

Ella es bastante fea

  1. La expresión “MANY A” significa numeroso(as) y siempre va seguido de un sustantivo singular.

Example.

Many a boy are going crazy for you

Numerosos niño están locos por ti
